Recreational Cocaine Use is More Dangerous than you may Think
Cocaine’s negative impacts still apply, even when used occasionally.
And to be clear, recreational cocaine use is considered once a month, while heavy cocaine use is 50 or more times per year. This means that even doing cocaine one night per week is considered heavy use, which may be news to some partygoers who consider their weekend coke use infrequent.
Cocaine is often used as a party enhancer, and it has a long-standing reputation as a ‘glamorous’ drug, due to its exorbitant price tag and popularity among celebrities. It is not uncommon for people at bars or clubs to use the drug as an energy booster to enable themselves to party harder and for longer periods of time. It is often used in conjunction with alcohol, the combination of which produces a third drug in the body called cocaethylene, an even more dangerous substance than either drug taken alone.
Even recreational cocaine use can cause long-term damage to users’ brain chemistry, affecting their ability to feel happiness and pleasure. Its short-lived high and addictive nature encourage repeated use, causing tolerance levels to rise quickly.
If you are concerned about your cocaine use, contact an addiction treatment centre immediately.
